This role is currently held by Todd M. Shapiro, who was appointed to the position in 2013 after serving as the organization’s CFO since 1998. During his time as president and CEO, Shapiro has expanded his engagement and influence in the accounting profession, and was recognized by Accounting Today as one of the “Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting” for the sixth time in 2020.

Why not make a USCAP certificate in 2023?

ICPAS adheres to a set of formal bylaws and is governed by an appointed board of directors. Dorri C. McWhorter, CPA, CGMA, CITP, CEO of YWCA Metropolitan Chicago[8], became the first Black chairperson to lead the ICPAS Board of Directors when she was appointed for the 2020-2021 term. The CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois (the “Fund”) serves as the charitable arm of ICPAS. It is a 501 charitable organization formed in 1998 by ICPAS members to ensure ongoing funding for ICPAS scholarship and outreach programs. Funded by voluntary donations, the Fund’s programs are geared toward attracting students, particularly women and underrepresented minorities, to the CPA profession and supporting students who alone cannot keep up with the rising costs of the educational requirements necessary to become a CPA.

One of the Fund’s primary programs is the Mary T. Wylie Internship Preparation Program, which was established to aid African American and other racial and ethnic minority college students in entering the accounting profession by providing training, resources, mentors, and interviews that could lead to paid internships or full-time jobs. The program is funded by donations to the Fund’s Mary T. Washington Wylie Opportunity Fund, which honors the legacy of Mary T. Washington Wylie, a Chicagoan and Northwestern University graduate who became the first African American female CPA in the U.S. in 1943. The Fund is governed by a board of directors independent from the ICPAS Board of Directors.
